| I am a free chase kinda guy. I love the thrill of the stalk. I have never hunted from a stand or blind. I would like to try it some day just never had the desire. Now that i am getting older and am on disability I have been thinking more and more about blind hunting. Here in Va we can't hunt over a food plot or use food as an attractant. you can plant before the season and after but can't sit on it during the season. I know some people who hunt over feeders in other states, just don't seem fair to me. The point is to put food on the table but still don't seem fair. I talked to a guy online and his state won't let them use mechanical BH's state laws are weird we need a set of laws country wide to make it easier on us hunters. This year I am hooking up with Hunters for the Hungry and I will give them some of my harvest. I like to use fixed BH's but on the advise of a few friends I will use Grim Reapers this year. I was told of the large trauma cavities and awesome bloodtrails. Thanks in advance for your replies. Will | |

| there are many different ways to answer that...I am all about fair chase, but sometimes the geographic location/type of animal requires a different practice. I hunted bear in Quebec over a bait site- that being said, if you were to walk around in the woods up there, you will come to realize that hunting over bait is really the only way to hunt them, the woods are so thick that you could literally be feet away from an animal (which we were) and not even know that it was there. Hunting in NY requires that you do not hunt over bait, however, you can plant a food plot and hunt over that- so I can't drag a 50lb bag of corn into the woods and hunt over it, but i can plant a 1 acre food plot and hunt in the middle of it...to me that seems ludacris. Different states allow different things, some i agree with, others i don't ..perfect example of what I don't believe in is running pigs with dogs and then stabbing it while the dogs are pinning it down to the ground- to me that terrorizes the animal in the last few minutes of its life and makes me feel sick (plenty of "pig sticking" videos on youtube...watch one if you don't believe me. Basically I look at it like this, everything is "situational" and may require something that you aren't used to, but if i personally have any negative reservations about the way that the hunt is performed (bait, dogs, feeder, etc.), or the manner of taking the animal..i just simply don't do it.
As far as different types of broadheads mechanical or fixed, my opinion is if it helps you recover the animal quickly, the animal does not suffer, have at it. In NY we aren't allowed to use barbed broadheads, and for good reason...other than that I think its more of a personal preference.

| I agree there is a lot to like about some states laws and still others just don't make sense. I think to hunt Bears I would rather hunt them from a tree stand. My rule of thumb is if it can hunt and eat me I want the upper hand lol.
I believe you about the pigs They do it to the javelina in AZ and to the pigs in TX not a pretty picture and so very cruel.
We can use mech bh here as long as the cut is larger than 7/8". I have not read anything about barbed bh here but I don't get why they are needed.
Thanks
Will

But my fixed heads, shoot just like my fieldpoints, so no problem That was always my way of thinking too, but I will try to use mech's this year only because my bud's won't let it go that I need to use these Grim Reapers. - MetalMan0880 wrote:

That is what my friends are telling me, I can't shoot the Whitetail's my bow is not fast enough. They say they are made for the higher KE bows. Mine is not one of them . so I will shoot the SS model. | |
